BIOGRAPHY

Attorney Elisabet García Torres, Esq., is a native of Patillas. Both Patillas and Guayama, its neighboring town, provided her with her first steps in the legal profession. Ponce fostered her academic and professional development in the legal field, and San Juan was the city from which she began handling legal matters that were required of her around her island, Puerto Rico. San Juan was also the city where she earned her Master of Laws (LL.M.).

 

Attorney Garcia Torres holds a Bachelor of Arts in Arts and Humanities with a concentration in Pre-Legal Studies and a minor in Political Science from the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico, Ponce Campus. She earned her Juris Doctor from the School of Law of her alma mater, Catholic University, and her Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution from the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico School of Law.

 

She completed his professional internship at the Puerto Rico Court of Appeals as a Legal Officer, researching and drafting civil matters, and at the Ponce Legal Assistance Society, as a litigator in criminal matters.

 

She served as Articles Editor for the Puerto Rican Law Review and, along with the 2015-2016 Editorial Board, published the article "Access to Justice: From Word to Deed. A Look at Current Problems in Puerto Rico" in the Special Edition of Volume 55 of the journal.

 

She has sought to contribute to legal education in different sectors of society, through teaching and participation in organizations that serve this purpose.

 

For over four years, Attorney Garcia Torres practiced law with Elite Juris and later joined the Federal Litigation and Bankruptcy Division of the Puerto Rico Department of Justice, where she represented the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico in various public interest cases before the Federal District Court of Puerto Rico. In 2023, she returned to private practice as an Associate Attorney at a renowned law firm in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where she currently works.
